Basilica of Saint Ambrogio

Since the IV century, the Basilica of Saint Ambrose is a fundamental point of reference for Milan. Second in importance only to the Duomo, its building was strongly wanted by the Bishop Ambrose, the patron Saint of Milan, who rests in the crypt. Here he attracts a large number of faithfuls. Inside the Basilica there are very important works of art such as the golden altar of Volvino, the sarcophagus of Stilicone and the ciborium of the Ottonian age. Noteworthy is also the shrine of Saint Vittore in Ciel d’Oro with its precious mosaics.
